“Back to School” tax free weekend set to begin Friday

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The state of Alabama will hold its 13th annual “Back to School” sales tax holiday this weekend.

The sale will begin Friday, July 20, at 12:01 a.m. and ends midnight on Sunday, July 22.

While all cities and counties do not participate, all purchases statewide are free from the state’s 4 percent sales tax. People in Talladega Co., however, have nothing to be worried about.

Talladega Co. is on board with the sales tax holiday along with its major cities. Sylacauga, Oak Grove, Childersburg, Talladega, Munford, and Lincoln will all participate.  To view the full list of participating cities and counties click here.

Clothing items will be exempt from taxes at a rate of $100 or less per item. Computers, computer software and school computer supplies are exempt up to $750.
Many clothing accessories will not be exempt and computer accessories will not be exempt. To view those items click here.

Almost all of your obvious school related items such as markers, crayons, paper, spiral notebooks and binders are exempt this weekend.
