JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The sixth year of a Fayettveville child’s life has been everything other than ideal.
Colton Brannen was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor shortly after the new year. His life since then has been filled with pain, treatments, and seizures. Since his diagnosis of Gliomatosis Cerebri, Colton has gone through numerous chemo-therapy and physical therapy treatments.
Although things may seem gloom from the outside, Colton’s life since his diagnosis has been filled with many memorable experiences. SylacaugaNews.com recently reported on Colton’s trip to senior prom. He has thrown out the first pitch of a Fayetteville High School baseball game, and on over the weekend, he had a chance to play varsity football for the Wolves at the FHS spring game at Jacksonville State University.
Colton’s mother, Kristin, told SylacaugaNews.com Fayetteville Coach John Limbaugh approached Colton with the idea of participating in the Wolves’ spring game and her son was all for it. “It was really sweet fort Coach Limbaugh to think of Colton like this,” she said. “The amount of support we have received from the school, the students, and faculty is special. We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but having all of these moments and experiences are just wonderful. It is hard to put into words how much our family appreciates this.”
With pads on and the number one on his chest, Colton lined up at the fullback position with the ball on the ten yard line. After the snap, Colton took the hand-off from the Wolves quarterback. Colton broke to the right following his blockers and strolled into the end zone. He was met by teammates and opposing players, congratulating him for his hard work and dedication on and off the field.

He has a few more events to mark off his bucket list. His mother said Limbaugh has set up a day for Colton to meet Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban and tour the Alabama athletic facility in Tuscaloosa in June. “Colton is very excited about meeting Nick Saban,” she said. “He really enjoys watching Alabama football.”
