The Feral Dogs of Avondale Mills to host bingo night

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Feral Dogs of Avondale Mills is hosting a Bingo fundraiser Thursday night for heartworm positive dogs.

Join the Feral Dogs of Avondale Mills for a night of fun playing Bingo while helping the shelter dogs in need.

Bingo will be held at the J. Craig Smith Community Center from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. May 17. You will receive four Bingo cards with a $10 donation. Prizes such as Amazon gift cards, Home Depot gift cards, gift cards to restaurants, and more will be given away, and food will be available to purchase. All proceeds will benefit dogs at the Sylacauga Animal Shelter in need of heartworm treatment.

The Feral Dogs of Avondale Mills are a dedicated group of volunteers assisting the homeless dogs and cats of Sylacauga, AL and the city managed Sylacauga Animal Shelter. It was founded by Board of Director members Ron and Carolyn Morse, Terri Brooks, Mitzi Smith, and Sonja Chandler. Its mission is to provide care, shelter and new homes to animals in need, and to prevent overpopulation and unwanted animals by promoting spay and neutering.

The Board of Directors wants the public to know that because mosquitoes are very prevalent in the south, the dogs are at a very high risk of being infected with heartworms. If a mosquito bites one infected dog, it can infect many more, as it is contagious. Preventing heartworms is very simple and inexpensive, whereas treating heartworms can cost hundreds of dollars and shortens the dogs life. “We are trying to help people know better, so they do better. Our slogan for the Bingo night is ‘One Bite. One Mosquito. One Heart.’ which is talking about our heart for the dogs and getting their hearts treatment for the mosquito bites.”

Follow The Feral Dogs of Avondale Mill and Friends of Sylacauga Animal Shelter on Facebook for more information.

If you cannot make it to Bingo night, but want to still contribute to its cause, The Feral Dogs of Avondale Mills always takes donations for spay and neutering vouchers. It welcomes volunteers and fosters at the Sylacauga Animal Shelter, and transports to rescue shelters and veterinarians.
