Tallapoosa County man arrested for exploitation of elderly family member

TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, Ala. – The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department is currently conducting an investigation into a case involving the the financial exploitation of an elderly person. The incident was reported on Jan. 24, 2018.

As a result of the investigation, Wyatt Glenn Walters, a 20-year-old from Phenix City, Alabama was arrested on Feb. 2, 2018 and charged with two counts of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly, three counts of Identity Theft, and one count Elder Abuse. Walters was charged as a result of the investigation which revealed he had financially exploited a family relative of funds without permission, along with failing to provide adequate food and medication to the family relative.

Walters was placed in the Tallapoosa County Jail with a bond of $85,000.

The department’s Criminal Investigative Unit conducted the investigation with the assistance of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

The investigation is continuing with the expectation of additional charges.
