Talladega Superspeedway puts “burn ban” in effect for race weekend

TALLADEGA, Ala. – This weekend, east central Alabama will be filled with fans for the Hellman’s 500 race weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Usually, the concern on many minds is the weather as Mother Nature has played havoc on the series throughout 2016.

Though there is no inclement weather forecast for the area. Talladega County is one of 46 counties in Alabama currently under a “fire alert” as most of the state has not received rain in over a month. This prompted Talladega Superspeedway officials to place a “burn ban” for the race weekend.

The ban prohibits campfires, pit fires, bonfires, and fireworks on the property. When asked about enforcing the ban over 1,200 acres of track property which is used for parking and campgrounds and 250 acres in the infield alone, speedway officials said that law enforcement will be on the grounds dealing with any violations.
