TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. – Sheriff Jimmy Kilgore is pleased to announce the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office is offering another free Citizens Firearms Course.

The Sheriff’s Office training staff developed these courses in response to the high volume of requests from the citizens regarding firearms classes for the public. Just click on the course you are interested in attending and complete the registration process, or you can pick up an application at the Talladega county Sheriff’s Offices in Talladega or Sylacauga. To attend one of the courses you MUST have a valid pistol permit or meet the following requirements:

*Be at least 18 years of age

*Submit to a background check

*No criminal record

If you do not have a valid pistol permit be sure to follow the Alabama State law, Code section 13A-11-73(b), on the transportation of your handgun.

The primary focus of the pistol course is to teach attendees how to safely and effectively handle and fire a pistol. Students will learn firearms safety and become familiar with various types of handguns, rifles, and shotguns in an attempt to aid them in proper firearms identification and function. They will also learn about Alabama’s self-defense laws. Students will spend approximately three hours in the classroom and one hour on the range. Upon completion of the course students will receive a certificate of attendance. We will provide a handgun for those who do not have their own.

The next firearms class will be on April 7, 2018 at Talladega County Investigations located at 501 West South Street, Talladega, Alabama 35160. The Class will begin at 9:00 a.m. You may fill out an application online, at www.talladegasheriff.com, or you may pick up an application at the Sheriff’s Offices in Sylacauga or Talladega. Please have your application turned in to the Sheriff’s Office no later than April 3, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.
