HOOVER, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference baseball tournament was held last week, Tuesday – Sunday, at the Hoover Met sports complex.
Ole Miss took home the 2018 crown after thumping LSU on Sunday by a score of 9-1.
With the Alabama Crimson Tide failing to make the tournament after finishing the regular season ranked last in the SEC, and the Auburn Tigers losing out Friday before Saturday’s single elimination, semifinal match-ups, the weekend portion of the tournament needed a little local flavor.
The 7-and-8-year-old league champions, the Blue Jays, from Sylacauga’s Cal Ripken league added that flavor.
Coached by Wes Butler, Michael Adair, Cade Conville and Mikah Campbell, the Blue Jays suited up to take the field in their blue jerseys and hats and white pants as the 2018 “Field of Dreams” contest winners.
The young Blue Jays were allowed to be on the field during warmups for Saturday’s semifinal between the LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks and were honored on the stadiums video board prior to first pitch.
The video below shows the Blue Jays high-fiving Arkansas players as they enter the dugout and the moment the team was honored in front of fans in the stadium. After being honored, the Blue Jays stuck around as Arkansas players signed memorabilia for the team.
The team also toured the television set of the SEC Network Saturday at the tournament.
