SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Young Professionals recently donated a large sum of cash to the Sylacauga Care House. The $1,000 donation were the proceeds from SYP’s shrimp boil event in July.

Rocky Lucas, President of SYP, told SylacaugaNews.com $1,000 was the groups goal for the shrimp boil and was excited SYP was able to donate money to a worthy cause like the Care House.

The Sylacauga Care House is located on Hwy. 21 just before entering downtown Sylacauga if driving north, and serves the less fortunate right here in the city of Sylacauga. “The Care House is a great organization that focuses on helping our community,” explained Lucas. “Just like Sylacauga Young Professionals, the Care House does things on a local level, so we decided to support it with the proceeds from our largest fundraiser.”

SYP also gives back to the community in other areas. The organization has previously benefited the Sylacauga Animal Shelter with a large donation of supplies and food, adopted children during the Christmas season to make sure the kids were able to experience the joy of Christmas that so many other children take for granted, and has done work the B.B. Comer Memorial Library with a book drive.

“Almost every dollar we bring in as an organization, we give back to the community,” explained Lucas. “We are people who have decided to live, work, and raise our families here, and we are very dedicated to the city. We have our heels dug into this city, and we want to see Sylacauga be the best that it can be.”

All it takes is $25 per year to be a part of the organization that believes in changing the community. For any information on SYP, check out its Facebook page. SYP also has its October Fest approaching soon on Oct. 19. The details will be posted to SYP’s Facebook account.
