Sylacauga runoff forum set for tonight

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Less than a week before the runoff election, candidates for multiple city seats will be participating in a political forum tonight at the J. Craig Smith Community Center.

The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Audience members can submit questions for candidates prior to the event. The first part of the forum will focus on city council candidates while the second part will focus on the mayoral candidates.

Candidates participating in the forum include:

Mayor: Brian Taunton and Jim Heigl

District 1: Ashton Fowler and Harry Heigl

District 2: Tiffany Nix and Dr. Manuel Smith III

District 3: Donnie Blackmon and Tom Roberts

District 5: Billy Carden and Dallas Davenport

District 4 was won by Lee Perryman last month when he defeated incumbent, council president Rocky Lucas.

The forum is sponsored by local media including Yea!106.5 and WYEA!1290, The Local Issue, Sylacauga Today, The Daily Home, TV47, and WFEB AM. The forum will be broadcast live on Yea!106.5, WYEA!1290, WFEB 1340 AM, and facebook.com/dailyhome. The television broadcast will air on WOIL-TV47.

The runoff election will be held next Tuesday, October 4. Polls will be open at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 7:00 p.m. SylacaugaNews.com will be watching the returns closely and have your election coverage Tuesday evening.
