Sylacauga High School Aggie Marching Band performs at Universal Studios

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sylacauga High School Marching Aggie Band spent the week at Universal Studios in Orlando to march in the Park’s Superstar Parade.

Band director Ryan Murrell told SylacaugaNews.com his band wanted to perform in front of thousands in Orlando to help achieve its goal for the upcoming year: branding. “We performed at this parade in order for people across the world to see students from Sylacauga and to help promote the school and program,” stated Murrell. “We have incredibly talented students in the school from athletics, to academics and fine arts. We wanted other people to see those students, too.”

Not only did the band perform in the parade, but it was also presented another unique opportunity in Orlando. The Aggies were elected to be the very first performer in the parade. Murrell said this was a great honor.

SylacaugaNews.com recently reported on the new instruments the band received in the month of march. Murrell said this was a great opportunity to test the drums, tuba bell covers, and their new banner which leads the band everywhere it goes. He said everything looked and sounded great throughout the parade as he expected.

The parade was also a chance for students to simply do something different, which assistant band director Martez Tidwell said is important. “We came here to expose our students to different performance opportunities they have by being involved in the arts,” he said. “Performing in a parade like this will give our students a memory that will last a lifetime.”

“The students had an incredible opportunity to not only perform, but to watch professionals in the Universal parks and Blue Man Group performing and entertaining for a living…and watching how they are impacting their respective audiences. We had a blast and made some awesome memories,” said assistant band director Samuel Childs.

You will have a chance to see the band and its new instruments in person very soon. Murrell is encouraging everyone to attend his band’s free performance on May 11 at 7 p.m. in Sylacauga High School’s Performing Arts Center.
