Sylacauga Farmers Market returns to Blue Bell Park

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The summer harvest is here. Farmers and everyday gardeners are reaping what they sowed earlier in the year, and you have a chance to get your hands on their fresh produce over the next several months at the Sylacauga Farmers Market.

Merchants of fresh produce arrived at the park early Friday morning to set up their canopies and stands of fruits and vegetables, patiently waiting for Blue Bell Park to transform into a place of commerce. As the morning rolled along, shoppers came out in droves.

“This is the best place to find fresh fruit and vegetables in Sylacauga,” Rachel Jones explained as she shopped. Jones said she shops at the market every summer. “I like to buy vegetables that I know are fresh and local, and it’s an opportunity to support local people farmers and gardeners.”

Vendors at the site told SylacaugaNews.com kickoff to the 2017 farmers market was a success. This was Chrystal Braxton’s first year setting up and selling her homemade pastries at the Sylacauga Market, and she was excited about the turnout. “It was a great first day for the market,” said Braxton. “As the summer rolls on and more people catch on that we are here, then we’ll have even larger crowds than we had today.”

The Sylacauga Farmers Market is regulated by the Alabama Department of Agriculture. All food must be home grown and re-sell is not allowed. The market’s fresh produce will be available every Friday until Aug. 18 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
