SYLACAUGA Ala. – The Sylacauga Community Playhouse will open auditions for the upcoming performance of “The Miracle Worker,” the amazing story of Helen Keller’s life, next week.

This empowering story of triumph calls for actors and actresses ages seven and older.

“It is the story of Helen Keller. She grew up not too far from here in Tuscumbia, Alabama. We are bringing that story to life,” said Dan Nixon, director for Sylacauga Community Playhouse. “We are also creating a curriculum for schools to use to learn more about the story of Helen Keller.”

Keller, born in 1880, fell severely ill as a baby leaving her deaf and blind for the rest of her life. She died in 1968 at age 87.

All auditions will start at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 & 15, and callbacks will be Nov. 17 and will be held at the Maxye Veazey Senior Center next to the Sylacauga Parks and Recreation building.

“We will have one rehearsal before Christmas, but in January there will be regular practices,” said Nixon.

Nixon hopes the public will come watch the performance in Spring 2017 when “The Miracle Worker” hits the stage at B.B. Comer High School. Tickets will be available online and at the door.

For more information or to download an audition packet visit www.scplayhouse.com, or contact Dan Nixon at (256) 404-1311.
