Sylacauga Board of Education accepts resignations, approves other personnel changes/additions

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Resignations from four employees were accepted in a called Friday morning meeting of the Sylacauga Board of Education. Chad Slaten, Health Teacher and Head Baseball Coach, and Spencer Stone, Assistant Principal, will leave Sylacauga High School, while Beth Steers, Dance Team Sponsor, and Corey Holcomb, Math Teacher, are departing Nichols-Lawson Middle School.

In other personnel changes, Meg Morris, 1st Grade Teacher at Indian Valley Elementary School, will transfer to Pinecrest Elementary School as 3rd Grade Teacher, and Allison Gardino, 3rd Grade Teacher at Pinecrest Elementary School, will transfer to Indian Valley Elementary School as Kindergarten Teacher, both effective with the 2017-2018 school year.

Thirteen new employees were approved:

— Nichols-Lawson Middle School: Sally Fowler, Science Teacher; Paula Bruno, Cheerleader Sponsor; Jaclyn Robinson and Tyler Looney, JumpStart Tutors
— Indian Valley Elementary School: Summer School Tutors Keley Barnhill, Cindy Cleveland, Sheila Fridal, Dana Hassell, Danje’ Morris, Amy Hill, Cheryl Tubbs; Summer School Tutor Substitute Rhonda Hudson

Franklin Hunter McIntosh was approved as a Substitute Bus Driver.

Nine employees were recognized as having reached tenure:

— Sylacauga High School: Joe Cordi, History Teacher; Paul Lynch, Science Teacher; Lisa McGrady, Health Science Teacher; Dontavius Tidwell, Music Teacher
— Indian Valley Elementary School: Kati Czachowski, Kindergarten; Kasey Littleton, Speech Pathologist; Danje’ Morris, 1st Grade Teacher
— Nichols-Lawson Middle School: Melissa Lambert, Math Teacher
— Pinecrest Elementary School: Jodi Shaw, 4th Grade Teacher

Sylacauga’s city schools are Sylacauga High School, Indian Valley Elementary School, Nichols-Lawson Middle School, and Pinecrest Elementary School. The system supports more than 2,300 students in grades Pre-K through 12.
