Sylacauga bands set to perform final show of the year Thursday night

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Spring Band Concert is always a great springtime event for the entire family. On Thursday, students will perform once again in the newly-renovated Sylacauga High School Auditorium.

This year’s concert will be conducted in a programmatic style, which allows the concert-goer to visualize something happening while listening.

“With this style, it’s going to be a pretty cool concert,” said Sylacauga High School Band Director Ryan Murrell.

The Nichols-Lawson Middle School (NLMS) 6th Grade Band, The NLMS 7th and 8th Grade Concert Band, The SHS Symphonic Band, and the Intro to Instrumental Music Brass Ensemble.

Audience members can look forward to a special guest who will conduct the Sylacauga High Fight Song, “Hail to the Varsity.”

Though high school seniors were recognized at the school’s band banquet a few weeks ago, they will each be recognized again for their hard work within the band program.

“We do appreciate the seniors for their hard work,” said Murrell, “We are sad to see them leave, but we know they are about to go off and do bigger and better things.”

The program starts at 7 p.m. Admission to the event is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit the Sylacauga Band Program.

Organizers hope the public comes out to support local band students because of their hard work within their community and in the classroom. They believe showing your support not only helps the students but the entire fine arts program.
