SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Author and storyteller John M. Williams will present “Village Life: A Memoir of People and Places” for the Comer Library’s SouthFirst Bank Adult Series on Wednesday.
If you love the idea of listening to a master storyteller on a cold January day – after enjoying delicious refreshments with friends at the Comer Library – you should mark your calendar to be at the brown bag lecture program at 12:00 noon on Jan. 31.
John M. Williams – Ph.D. in English Language and Literature – has just retired from 26 years of teaching at Lagrange College. John is going to put his academic hats aside and tell the “stories that rattle around in his head” of growing up in the small village of Auburn, Alabama.
If Auburn football is not your cup of tea, relax since these are stories that could be your own – stories about teachers, band directors, businessmen, dance instructors, and other characters that influenced your life! Sure, John may tell a few football stories, but mostly he just wants to talk about the people and places that helped shape his perspective on life.
Fans of John say “his witty stories make us see the things he saw and remember the things we saw during our own growing up years!” John’s memoir in stories relates experiences that influenced his creative adult life equipping him to write musical plays, play in bands, publish novels, and search out stories about unusual people, like Clay County’s fortune teller, Mrs. Rena Teel.
Library Director, Tracey Thomas, invites everyone to come out to hear John M. Williams at the SouthFirst Adult Lecture Series – “These Are Our Stories” – at the Comer Library on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Refreshments are at 11:00 a.m. and the program begins at 12:00 noon.
