Magnolias to open new store in Chelsea; celebrates 25th anniversary

CHELSEA, Ala. – It’s a place you are familiar with. It’s a place where you’ve bought countless gifts for loved ones over the years: Magnolias Gifts & Accessories.

It started in Sylacauga then expanded to Pell City.

“For our 25th anniversary, we are actually opening a brand new store in Chelsea, Ala.,” said Linda Hardy, owner of Magnolias. “We are so excited. We have been trying to come to Chelsea for probably 7 to 8 years and finally found, I think, I really great location. We are going to work hard to become part of the community and we’re just excited. We can hardly wait to open.”

Linda, and her daughter Jordan Hardy Morton, have teamed up over the years, to manage the successful business.

“Our customers have been really sweet, especially in Pell City and Sylacauga,” said the co-owner. “Their customers have been shopping with us for a while. They seem just as excited as we are.”

Linda said the new Chelsea location, much like the other two, will have a different personality.

“We think of it as ‘small town magic.’ We offer so much more than the big box stores. We get a personal service. We want to have a retail experience when you come in the store,” said Hardy.

When SylacaugaNews.com visited the store, pictures were being hung and display pieces were being assembled.

“We have a lot of finishing touches to do…we have a lot of dressing to do. A lot of stock to still display and arrange for people to see it. We’re just excited about it. This is the fun part to me. After everything is checked in and getting it all together and displaying it,” said Hardy.

When driving down Hwy. 280, do not expect to see the store off the side of the road. Hardy said there is a reason.

“I really didn’t want to be on Hwy. 280 because 280, to me, is normally destination traffic. It’s very congested in the Chelsea area on 280 right now. This site became available and it was closest to the road. This road, Co. Rd. 47, is highly traveled. It leads people to their homes and they come by here to go to work and to take the children to school. So, we hope it’s going to be a great location,” said Hardy.

Now that three stores will be open, the mother-daughter duo will have to split their time between a new location.

“I think mom and I have come us with a good solution. I am going to hope between Pell City and Chelsea…and mom will be between Sylacauga and Chelsea,” said Morton. “We are just thrilled that the Lord has given us another opportunity to open another store and it’s just a ton of fun. We’re just excited to meet everybody here in Chelsea.”

“Oh, it’s fun! It’s fun. It’s fun. It’s fun,” said Hardy with laughter. “There’s just nothing like it. When you start planning for one, there’s a different set of opportunities. We like to call them opportunities – not obstacles – that need to be solved. And it’s kind of like putting a puzzle together at every location. It fits together with a lot of work. It just comes together. The Lord has blessed us. We are just thankful for this opportunity.

Magnolias in Chelsea is set to have a soft opening Sept. 18 with a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Oct. 5.
