Hurricane Harvey relief efforts: How you can help NOW

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Today, RadioAlabama — Yea!106.5 & WYEA!1290, 98.3 Fox FM, 105.1 WRFS, and 96.3 & 1050 WLMA — along with SylacaugaNews.com are joining with the Alabama Broadcasters Association and other radio and television stations to help raise funds for relief efforts in Texas.

The hurricane has caused unprecedented flooding – the worst disaster in the state’s history. Catastrophic inland flooding is continuing in the greater Houston metropolitan area, and recovery is expected to take years. Damage and economic losses of up to $200 billion have been projected, with a large portion sustained by uninsured homeowners.

To the extent you can, we encourage you to contribute to charity organizations mobilizing to provide assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

In Sylacauga, please consider the following:

  • Donate supplies tomorrow (Saturday) from 8:00 a.m.-noon at the city Municipal Complex, the American Legion, and Piggly Wiggly locations. Needed supplies include flashlights, batteries, toiletries, paper products, water, canned foods and non-perishables, baby formula, diapers, pet foods, five-gallon buckets, cleaning supplies, gloves, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
  • Also on Saturday, Workout Anytime, at its temporary offices at 124 N. Broadway Ave., is accepting and will forward monetary donations.
  • Sylacauga’s Civitan Club is working with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCR) and focused on cleaning supply buckets. Their drop-off points are the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce and the law offices of Cheryl Barnett on Broadway.

Additionally, these organizations are assisting and would appreciate donations.
