SYLACAUGA, Ala. – An electrical fire on April 27 at 309 Lee Street in Sylacauga left a home completely in ruins. The family of four that lived there was left with nothing besides the clothes on their backs.

Angie Strickland lived at the home with her husband, 17-year-old daughter and four-year-old son. She said her family does not know where to turn next.

“We are completely lost,” said Strickland. “We have nothing. We lost everything. It is devastating.”

The fire could have taken more than just personal belongings. Strickland said she is usually at home at the time of the fire broke out but happened to have a MRI scheduled the day the fire set her home ablaze. Although it is tough to be positive in a situation such as this, she said she is counting every blessing she can.

“A lot more could have been lost,” she said. “It could have been worse.”

As of now, the Stricklands are staying with family and do not know where to start the recovery process.

Community members are reaching out to help the Strickland family. A GoFundMe account has been started by Brandi Allen. She said she is trying to do everything she can to help this family get back on their feet.

Reaching out to the Strickland family was an easy call for Allen. In 2016, her son was the victim of a violent crime in Sylacauga. A GoFundMe account was started for her son and received overwhelming support. Allen decided to pay it forward.

“I am trying to help this family just like people from this community helped me,” sated Allen. “A lot of great people helped me and I am just trying to raise awareness so this family can get the help they need.”

Strickland is overjoyed to have people in the community, like Brandi, helping her family though this tragedy.

“What Brandi has done just overwhelms my heart,” she said. “To me it is unreal to have people step out and lend a helping hand.”

In this time of need, Strickland is putting herself last. She told SylacaugaNews.com her main concern is for her children. “My heart just goes out to my children,” she explained. “For a four-year-old to know he doesn’t have clothes or toys — its just devastating. It would be a blessing to not only get myself back on my feet but also get my children the things they need.”

You can donate to the Strickland family by clicking here. If you cannot give money or would rather donate in other ways, Allen is accepting anything and everything people would like to give. She listed many necessities such as tooth brushes, soap, shampoo or any other household items people need.

If you have items that need to be picked up, contact Allen and she will come and get your donations.
