Faircloth leads Aggie Soccer to playoffs in first season; first round game tonight at Legion Stadium

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Playoff soccer is in the air as the Sylacauga High School boys soccer team (14-6-4) will host Talladega at home Thursday night in the first round.

The Aggies, coached by Billy Faircloth, won their region in Faircloth’s first season as head coach, allowing them to host the first round. Faircloth continued the winning tradition of SHS soccer after stepping in as head coach when Matt Zedaker was named the head football coach and athletics director at Lincoln High School last year.

“Lately, I’ve been asked a lot about how it’s been in my first year as the head coach, and my response is always the same…I’ve now been here 15 years. It’s a title change for me; but my work ethic, the tradition that I’ve been blessed to be a part of this long, the expectations I have of my players, and my Aggie Pride – the love I have for Sylacauga High School, my school system, and my soccer family – those things are unwavering,” Faircloth explained.

Faircloth is proud of his team winning its region and excited to host the first round of the playoffs at home. “We’ve been fortunate to come out on top in our last several matches, and the win over Leeds (in front of an awesome crowd) to clinch the region championship and host the first playoff match, well, these young men did that and deserve it,” he said. “You can’t take anything for granted. We can’t be satisfied or complacent, because now we’re down to each match representing a one match season – win and play again, lose and turn in gear.”

The Aggies have faced the Talladega Tigers multiple times this season, and Faircloth knows this game is not going to be handed to his team. “It’s time to work as we prepare for this first round playoff match versus Talladega. Talladega has a really good squad and poses a real threat to us. This will be our fourth time facing each other this season, so now it’s almost like a chess match. It will be a battle on Thursday when we kickoff at 7:00.”

The win or go home match-up will kickoff at 7:00 at Legion Stadium on Thursday night.
