A Day in the life of Veterinarian Dr. Mike Ivey

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Dogs, cats, and all types of creatures bring humans joy on a daily basis. Unfortunately, man’s best friend cannot always be energetic and cheerful. Our animals can suffer from illnesses and health issues that can result in a visit to the veterinarian. Local, Dr. Mike Ivey, knows all about the medical treatment of variety of pets and serves the Sylacauga community as a Veterinarian at the Coosa Valley Animal Clinic.

Veterinarian Dr. Mike Ivey is a native of the Sylacauga community and finished school at Sylacauga High. Following graduation, Ivey spent four years in the Navy and then decided to leave in order to seek a career path that focused on his passions. Needing a degree to fulfill his dreams, he attended Auburn University to receive his undergraduate degree.

Ivey thoroughly enjoys all parts of his job and loves serving the communities pets. However, he dislikes actually having to run the financial aspect of his business by having to pay bills and hiring new employees. “Keeping up with the finances is a very time consuming process,” said Ivey.

Ivey said he does not have a favorite breed of animal but he does own a 14 year old Lab that he adores.

As a veterinarian, he stressed the importance of caring for your animals by being aware of environmental changes. Owners must make sure to provide a covered and warm place for their animals when it is freezing cold or raining. If the temperature drops below 40 degrees, extra bedding material is needed or the animal needs to be brought in the house.

Though Ivey is not planning on retiring anytime soon, he is hoping to add another certified veterinarian on staff to help reduce his workload. Through the years, Dr. Mike Ivey has continued to serve the Sylacauga community by being a help to some of man’s best friends.
