SHARE NOW

ROCKFORD, Ala. – A fight between inmates Wednesday afternoon in the Coosa County Jail in Rockford sent one man to the hospital.

Town members say an ambulance flew through the town of Rockford around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday and arrived at the Coosa County Jail to take Gregory Earl Thomas, a 37-year-old male from Alexander City to a hospital in Alexander City.

Thomas was in jail on two counts of 3rd Degree Burglary and one count of 2nd Degree Theft.

According to sources close to the situation, he was allegedly beaten by fellow inmate Thomas Leroy Chapple, 34, of Equality. Chapple has been in the Coosa County Jail since April 2, 2018. According to jail records, he was arrested for the sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

SylacaugaNews.com reached out to Coosa County Sheriff Terry Wilson for more information, but he was not available for comment.

The severity of Thomas’ injuries, if any, are not known at this time. The cause of the fight is also unknown.
