Congressman Mike Rogers speaks out against NFL National Anthem protests

SHARE NOW

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nothing in the present time seems to be more controversial than National Football League players protesting against what they call social injustices by kneeling during the United States’ National Anthem.

These protests began during the 2016 NFL season when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat on the bench during the anthem, stating social inequalities and oppression against minorities as the reason for his protests.

On Sunday, many NFL players knelt in unison with their coaches and team owners as the National Anthem played, while some teams did not even exit the locker room for the Star Spangled Banner.

On Wednesday, Alabama Congressman Mike Rogers spoke out against the protests. “I am appalled by those in the NFL that show disrespect during the playing of the National Anthem.  The National Anthem and our American flag are symbols of all that makes America great in our never ending effort to become a more perfect union. The sacrifice of all the brave Americans in service of our nation, past and present, is honored by the National Anthem. These disrespectful protests only serve to divide us and do nothing to foster unity.”
