“Coffee With a Cop” returning to Sylacauga on Dec. 6

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – On Dec. 6, the Sylacauga Police Department plans on bringing back its community outreach program, “Coffee With a Cop.”

According to Police Chief Kelley Johnson, “Coffee With a Cop” was first launched years ago by former Police Chief Chris Carden, but it has not been held in more than a year.

Johnson said he thinks now is a good time to bring the program back and he expects to hold the event at least two or three times per year in the future.

“It gives the community a chance to ask us questions,” said Johnson. “It’s a way for us to talk about important things with the people in the community in an informal setting.”

Johnson put an emphasis on the event being informal. He told SylacaugaNews.com that there will be not be a keynote speaker, no speeches will be given, and there is no agenda. He said he hopes it will be a time for everyone to meet and interact with police as well as voice their concerns.

Through interaction with the people of Sylacauga, Johnson hopes to build relationships that will be beneficial to everyone in the community.

“The relationships are very important because we need help,” stated Johnson. “We can’t succeed without the help of the community, and we can’t do all the things that we need to do without the people of Sylacauga”

The program will be held at Burger King on W. Fort Williams Ave. from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Johnson hopes that at least 25 to 50 people come out and enjoy the coffee that will be provided by Burger King free of charge.
