Childersburg City Council approves poll workers for Sunday alcohol sales special election

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The latest meeting of the Childersburg City Council opened Tuesday evening with the Council’s approval of Resolution 2018-06, which gives approval to appoint poll workers for a special election on June 26, 2018 to consider public opinion on Sunday Alcohol Sales after 1:00 p.m.

Those appointees are as follows:

Chief Inspector: Randy Bowen
Chief Clerk: Sandra Donahoo
Assistant Clerk: Lisa Lee
Assistant Clerk: Audrey Pate
Assistant Clerk: Dianne Bowen
Assistant Clerk: Ann Gambrell

Ferry Court Community Center:
Chief Inspector: Nina Marbury
Chief Clerk: Eugene Marbury

Also gaining approval was Resolution 2018-07. It gives approval to appoint the city clerk to be charged with the duties of preparing and filing the voter’s list and act as absentee manager for the June 26, 2018 special election.

The Council gave approval for the city clerk to request an informal ethics opinion from the State Ethics Commission about duties of the abatement officer.

The Council tabled until April 17, 2018, the hiring of a new full-time Park and Recreation Director.

Billy Rich of the annual Restoration Ride was on hand to report another year of growth for the fund-raising event. This year, there were 372 registered riders covering distances of 8, 33, 74, and 101 mile bicycle rides. Rich presented Mayor Wesson with a check for $8,000 for the historic Kymulga Grist Mill Park.

The Council also approved was the purchase of a Kubota Z26X lawnmower from LRA funds at a cost of $7,600.

Approval was given to pay invoices in the amount of $172,930.02.

The Council approved specialized training for Childersburg Police Officer Jeremy Brooks in Tuscaloosa, where he will receive 32 units of training in Death Investigation.

During the Town Hall portion of the meeting, Mayor Ken Wesson and Police Chief Rick McClelland commended a trio of young men for an act of exemplary behavior. The three – Jakob Moats, Ricky Chacon, and Corey Bennefield found a wallet while visiting Kiwanis Park on March 25 and promptly turned it in to the Childersburg Police Department. The wallet, which contained a large amount of cash, identification, credit cards, and personal items, was returned to its very grateful owner completely intact.

It was noted that Childersburg will play host to big community events during upcoming back-to-back weekends, both featuring new attractions. Coosafest 478 will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14th in downtown Childersburg. The following weekend on April 21 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., at the historic Kymulga Grist Mill Park, it’s the 8th Annual Grits Festival.

The next regular meeting of the Childersburg City Council will be held on April 17, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.
