Childersburg City Council approves local grant match for Kymulga Grist Mill trail project

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – During its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Childersburg City Council approved Resolution 2017-20 which guarantees $50,000 in matching funds and in-kind work for a possible state grant to enhance the park trail system and for which the Historical Preservation Commission has applied.

In other business, the Council approved Susie Wimmer as Animal Control Officer, assigned to the Police Department as a full-time permanent employee at $10 per hour; voted to support the Childersburg Middle School’s STEM educational camp with a one-time $250 appropriation; approved transfer of Anthony Murphy from the Street Department to the Parks & Recreation Department for building and grounds maintenance as well as athletic programs support; approved advertising for a CDL driver for the Street Department; and authorized Shirley Shepherd and Aimee Burnette to attend a magistrate maintenance class in Montgomery on Dec. 1.

During the Town Hall portion of the meeting, Mayor Ken Wesson introduced Greater Coosa Valley Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Aleana Cribbs and Ashley Frye from Fayetteville High School and Miranda Brunn from Childersburg High School.

“Christmas in the Pines” announced a job fair at the Limbaugh Community Center on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. They intend to hire 40 to 45 workers to carry out various jobs at the seasonal event from Nov. 17-Dec. 3.

Mayor Wesson pointed to several on-going projects including expected completion of paving this week in the lot adjacent to the Rainwater Library on 1st Street. Wesson also noted positive response from the majority of nuisance ordinance letters sent in recent months.

According to the Mayor, a purchase order is expected this week for new police cars expected om early December. “I’d like to thank Renasant Bank for their work in helping us arrange, by far, the best financing rate on those new vehicles,” he said. “It’s great to keep that business in town.”
