SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The City of Sylacauga is hosting the 8U Cal Ripken all-star state baseball tournament beginning Thursday at the Donald Comer Jr. Sports Complex.
Over 17 teams from across the state will compete in pool play Thursday and the majority of the day Friday before single elimination play begins Friday night at 6:00.
The Tournament features teams from Sylacauga, Childersburg, New Site, Muscle Shoals, Westside, Opp, Lineville, Semmes, Florence, Jackson, Grand Bay, Gulf Shores, Phenix City, Thomasville, Citronelle and Escambia.
Before the tournament officially began at 10:oo Thursday morning, the park hosted opening ceremonies. All teams met on field 1 to be recognized before play began and got to witness Sylacauga Mayor Jim Heigl throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Hundreds of parents and fans are already at the park preparing for their teams to play. Tents, lawn chairs, and umbrellas and all allowed in the park. Sylacauga Parks and Recreation has allowed those with tents to set up directs behind the outfield fences.
Childersburg will play its first game at noon on Thursday. Sylacauga plays its first game at 6:oo. To view the full bracket click here.
