SHARE NOW

MOBILE, Ala. – Alabama Senator Rusty Glover announced on Wednesday he is throwing his name into hat into the 2018 Lieutenant Governor race. Glover, a Mobile Native, has served in the Alabama Legislature for 14 years as a member of the House of Representatives, and is currently serving the people of the 34th district in Mobile County.

Glover made the announcement on his social media platforms Wednesday morning.

“I’ve been serving the people of my district, and now I want to serve all the people of Alabama,” said Glover in his announcement. “I want to make the Legislature open to all people, looking out for all Alabamians and not just the select few.”

In a video announcing his candidacy, Glover stated he is running on three promises. The first to defend the state’s conservative values. The second promise is to make the Legislature completely transparent. He said there will be no more “back door” deals under his watch. Lastly Glover promised he would work to bring quality jobs back to the state of Alabama.

Over the next two years Glover plans to extensively travel the state and meet with citizens to hear their concerns.

For those not familiar with the role of the Lt. Governor, the title holder acts as the presiding officer of the Alabama State Senate. In addition to serving as the Senate’s presiding officer, the Lieutenant Governor performs the duties of the Governor in the event of the Governor’s death, impeachment, disability, or absence from the state for more than 20 days.
