WASHINGTON, D.C. – Alabama Congressman Mike Rogers will be on the Republican Steering Committee once again. He was elected to the committee for the second time this week by his colleagues.
The Steering Committee recommends members of Congress to serve as full committee chairmen based on their background, experience and seniority, as well as each member’s committee assignments.
When elected to the steering committee the first time, Rogers was concerned that regions, especially the south, were not being fairly represented with chairmanships, and he hoped to restore regional balance.
Rogers has the same plan for his second stint on the committee.
“As the Steering Committee representative for the Alabama and Tennessee delegations, I look forward to advocating on their behalf before the House Republican Conference,” said Rogers. “And as one of the representatives of southern states, I look forward to working on bringing regional balance to chairs and committee assignments.”
Rogers is the only Alabamian to serve on the committee in the last decade. The appointment is for the upcoming 115th congress.
