Aggie Hoops tips off tonight at home against Coosa Central

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Five short days ago the Aggie’s football season ended in the first round of the playoffs at Tiger Stadium in Eufaula. Tonight, the Aggies will get back on the hardwood as basketball season opens at home versus Central Coosa.

The Aggies had an impressive postseason run last season, dominating the sub-regionals, regional semi-finals and the regional finals in Montgomery, and then making the Final Four at Legacy Arena in Birmingham. In the Final Four, the Aggies ran into Jemison who eventually took down Faith Academy to win the 5A state title.

In a losing effort against Jemison, varsity boys head coach William Copeland said he learned many lessons from the deep playoff run. “We made a great run last year, but everyone counted us out,” he said. “The biggest thing I learned is that when you have players you have to take advantage of it.”

Expectations are certainly high for the 2017-2018 season, and why not? The Aggies have a majority of their players coming back. Many of these young men are juniors and seniors. Expectations, however, were not a popular subject for conversation at last week’s Talladega County Basketball Media Days in Talladega. Jokingly saying he would the the “Nick Saban approach” when prefacing a questions asked about expectations. Copeland responded to the question by saying his goal is to try to get better, and accomplishments will take of themselves through hard work and experience.

RadioAlabama’s YEA!106.5 and WYEA1290 will partner with the Sylacauga High School journalism department to bring you a live video stream of the Shop-N-Fill Sylacauga High School Basketball Game of the week on AggiePride.tv.

Play-by-play announcer Jeremy Law and color commentator Max Jackson will have their first call of the basketball season Friday night when the Aggies take on the Lincoln Golden Bears.
