20 dead in Alabama during Fourth of July vacation period

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Alabama Law Enforcement released disturbing news following its marked travel period for Independence Day travel period.

The time frame designated as a significant travel period for the holiday spanned from Friday, June 29 – Sunday, July 8.

During that period 18 people were killed on Alabama roadways and two were killed on Alabama waterways.

Saturday, June 30, was the deadliest day, with five traffic fatalities including four motorcyclists and one motorcycle passenger in Cullman, Limestone, Marshall and Mobile counties.

Of those killed on roadways, not including the motorcyclists, three were pedestrians, three were passengers in a vehicle and six were drivers. Of the nine killed in a vehicle, only five were wearing seat belts.

Both fatalities on Alabama waterways were recorded on July 4.
